Greetings to everyone! Today I decided to figure out a rather ambiguous topic – and what is so attracted to the atmosphere of post -apocalypse and why more and more books, games and films are on this subject.
Post -apocalyptic (PA) – the genre of science fiction in which the action develops in a world that has survived a global catastrophe. The post -apocalyptic is also called a creative style, bearing the mood of desert, loneliness and horror in the images of aged and abandoned technology or buildings.
The main characteristic sign of PA is the development of the plot in the world (or its limited part) with a specific history. In the past of this world, civilization reached a high level of social and technical development, but then the world survived a certain global catastrophe, as a result of which civilization and most wealth created were destroyed.
The most common options for:
The Third World War (Metro 2033);
Zombie apocalypse (Resident Evil);
AI uprising (terminator, matrix);
Alien invasion (the day when the earth stopped; Mass Effect);
Local (i`m alive) or general planetary (survarium) cataclysm.
Naturally, this genre would not have received such development, if it was not so attractive. But this is the focus-it is difficult to answer what the situation of potential destruction of the human appearance or, at worst, civilization is so beckoning people. Let’s try to figure out the motives that move people.
Permissiveness.
Each of us lives in society. However, everyone has long known that it is impossible to live in society and be absolutely free from it. Little by little, but the human crowd begins to annoy: they pushed in transport, nashamili in a store/hospital, yelled a chef … The list can be continued endlessly. It is only important that the tension grows over time, gaining drop. Even if a person has ways to relieve stress, he will still be subconsciously ready for such an appeal the next day that, of course, will not add sympathy for others. In some people, irritation gradually grows into hostility towards society. Looking at the people who scurry around, there is a desire for changes for the better, but it is expressed in a peculiar way – in the idea that the world should collapse, and then everything will change. Yes, then it will definitely be possible to break all the glasses on the chef’s car and pierce the wheels; to attack gopniks near the entrance, previously armed with a barrel stolen in an arms; embrace a supermarket and so on.
Having lost external limiters, such as the Law, the entire base essence of a person will certainly or later break out. And then only he will only know that he will do.
In fairness, it is worth noting that not everyone will begin to shave out and kill. Most people will still try to return to their former lives, rallying around the leaders that appeared.

I think all of us, if they didn’t read, then at least we saw the film adaptation of the novel Daniel Defoe “Life and amazing adventures of Robinson Crusoe”. A person is left alone with himself. For the first time in his life, which is quite possible, he is left to himself. No one will take the handle and will not say what to do. Absolute freedom that many people so dream of. That’s just where to get this freedom to a city dweller, living all his years in the same apartment of a panel high -rise building? It turns out only a rare time out of town or on vacation to the southern countries. But even there, a person is not left alone again – around the crowds like him want to relax from a daily routine. This is where the thoughts appear about getting to the uninhabited island or to be completely alone in an empty city. Wake up in absolute silence, not to see endless traffic jams on the roads, the smell of gasoline in the air, crush in the subway … Only absolute freedom is as murderous as imprisonment in a single chamber. Robert Neville from Richard Matison’s novel “I is a legend” exactly in the same situation, but with one exception – he did not want to remain alone among the mutating (in the film adaptation he himself is the culprit of everything that happened).
War. Inner thirst for violence.

Perhaps the most common scenario of the collapse of civilization is the Third World War. According to analysts, it will last only a few hours. Maximum – a couple of days. All international agreements will be violated in the first seconds, when the well -known powers decide to strike a preemptive blow. Further, everything will go along the chain, like an uncontrollable nuclear reaction – chemical and bacteriological weapons will also be taken out of the hazelners to certainly beat the adversaries (simultaneously poisoning the earth for many meters deep into the forward). As a result – neither winners nor defeated in this war will be. The most global draw in the world will turn into the absolute destruction of all and all, if not by direct intent, then the consequences will affect each.
In the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky “Metro 2033”, just this scenario is described: the surface in large cities is more unsuitable for life and people are forced to escape in the subway, which is also not so friendly. The company has split into the warring factions and each pursues its policy: free stations survive through trade or joining existing alliances, the Communists set out to build “communism on a single metro line. Lenin ", the Nazis created 4 Reich at 3 stations, and, of course, Hansa – the most influential of the new associations. Add to this a constant war between most factions, the criminal world does not disappear anywhere and flourishes. Yes, and do not forget about a fair amount of mutated animals, anomalies and sectarians. And even their chance to salvation (symbiosis with black), people rejected their habit, and a missile shelling arranged a reasonable mutant.
Love for horrors.
This topic has always caused a genuine fear mixed with the same uncontrollable curiosity in people. Instead of the desire to hide, hearing a rustle in the basement, where (according to the law of the genre) there is no light, the main character of the film/books/games will certainly go there. Further development of the plot we all know. Or a walk alone through the forest/cemetery, which has bad glory. This topic is also a bottomless in its incarnations, as is sometimes banal. But it intrigues that at the basis there are only a few plots to reveal the idea. And the main one is to overcome this hidden somewhere in the subconscious of horror before the darkness or sinister place. Each of us somewhere deep down wants to overcome fears, or just tickle our nerves.
Previously, horrors consisted in the show of one vampire for the whole film ("Nosferatu. Symphony of horror ”1922. Dir. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau). And this film really scared people. Now the highly polygonal physiognomy of the werewolf, which is leaning out on you from the screen in the cinema, makes you consider how well it is painted, but not to feel a sense of fear. The fears of people have changed, we need more and more discharge of the gloomy atmosphere and much greater tragedy. Now, in the main role, you need to put a mortgage in the films and a high percentage of a loan or a worldwide paragraph, but not “good old” vampires and werewolves. Although, this is already closer to the genre of anti -utopia.
So what do we see? The love of post -apocalypse, as well as for any other type of creativity, is nothing more than a reflection of the inner essence of a person on the reality surrounding him. If a person is in a depressed state, in a chronic depressor or simply loves the form of destroyed buildings (I also belong to the latter), then the genre of post -apocalypse is just that you want to see and feel. It’s not that far from the fact that having been in the real conditions of destruction and the fall of civilization, these people will feel as comfortable as at home, because sitting in a bunker or a metro tunnel will no longer wrap yourself in a blanket, brewing a saucepan of tea and a mug of dumplings)))))))
